WILDZONE FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES
The Wildzone is a programme of hands-on activities for accompanied children aged 5-13, introducing them to wildlife and nature.
Please note activities last 2 hours and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Sorry no dogs.
Unless otherwise stated activities cost £3 per child aged 5 and over except for Easter Lambs which is £3 per child aged 3 and over. No charge for supervising adults but donations appreciated.

Newtown Brickmaking and Salt Pan Nature Trail
Get hands-on with Newtown estuary’s history by making clay bricks like the past residents of the area and join the warden to explore wildlife around the old salt pans using trail sheets. All weather activity. 1km. Wheelchair accessible but soft ground if wet.

Easter Lambs and Eggs
Let’s have fun meeting the sheep and seeing if the gulls have laid eggs at Newtown. Make an Easter lamb with real wool from a National Trust sheep to take home. Also suitable for younger children. ½ km on level ground.

Mottistone Bat Zap
Listen to a talk then try bat detectors in the dark with the National Trust and Isle of Wight Bat Hospital. Bring a torch. No charge. Donations invited to be shared between the National Trust and the IW Bat Hospital. Some slight slopes on gravel and grass.

St Helen's Duver Bug Hunt
Use sweep nets and bug pots to look for bugs in the long grass, sand and undergrowth of the Duver, then see them magnified on a monitor screen.
Meet at the St Helen's Duver National Trust car park (SZ 637 893).

Mottistone Moth Night
In the evening we will be setting a light trap and looking for moths around the garden. Then we’ll return the following day at 8.30am to see what has been caught in the light trap and to discover what amazing moths inhabit the night skies of Mottistone. Park at Mottistone Manor Garden car park (SZ 403838) and meet in Manor Garden at 1930. Return the following morning at 0830.
